Apple iPod classic 160GB - Black Average Rating: ![]() |

Excellent gadget. I bought this model because I wanted the huge memory, and I'm glad I chose it. Although the product itself is easy to use, i'm a few months on from when I first bought it, and I have found the sensitivity of the dial has decreased and is sometimes unresponsive. Also, it is annoying to only be able to download music etc from the main computer it is synced to. It would be far more useful if the sync worked both ways - i.e. I could import media files from friends and family computers and transfer them to my own library. I know the homeshare facility was created to help with this, but I've found this doesnt always work and you have to be on the same internet connection at the same time to do this. In addition, the majority of the itunes apps/games are only compatible with the ipod touchscreen. Which is also annoying. But this is more of a gripe with itunes than the product itself.
Apparently Amazon feel that delivering items to a different city 15 miles away from your home town is acceptable. I don't.
I've been looking to replace my 80g iPod as it's full up and I still have about 500 vinyl albums left to digitise. Getting the 160g seemed a no brainer until I read some of the comments about low sound levels. Before parting with my money, therefore, I went to a well known retail chain where iPods are on display and can be tested. I took my own headphones (Sennheiser CX 400 II) which have tight fitting 'in ear' ear-pieces and, crucially, a built-in volume control. With these I found no problem with the sound levels. Yes, the levels are a little lower. With my 80g I usually had the headphone volume on the minimum setting. With the 160g I had to move it up to about half way to achieve similar sound levels but I couldn't take maximum volume, that was deafening. So, with a decent set of headphones the reduced sound levels should not be a problem. So, with my new iPod now only being half full instead of completely full, I have no hesitation in giving this 5 stars. It's a beautiful little piece of kit which will enable me to carry my whole album collection on something not much bigger than a cassette (and I remember my first Walkman, and pockets bulging with cassette tapes!)
Having owned 3 iPod classics that have all died within 24 months of purchase - I would strongly advise people to look elsewhere. There is no support for FLAC or OGG audio files. The screen is now outclassed by other players (e.g. Cowan). The poor relibility is a big negative.
The iPod classic is everything I expected, huge capacity and as easy to use as all previous click-wheel iPods (I also have a 2nd generation Nano). My only complaint would be the volume - it is difficult to hear audiobooks when at the gym even on maximum volume (although this is partly because the gym music is too loud!)

The item came well before it even said it was going to get dispatched! I am very pleased with the quality of the service!
This is the best buy Ive got off amazon! You wont at all be disappointed, its so easy to use and the quality of the screen is incredible. The apps that you can purchase on Itunes are brilliant, worth every penny...highly recommend! 10/10
I bought this for my 10 year old son. He loves it. The WiFi is great, I use it to surf and watch the Iplayer! I put a few movies on it for a long haul flight which was easy. My only complaint is the itunes software, being a PC veteran I really hate itunes but I think I've got the hang of it now.
Another great product from Apple. I had the 1st generation ipod nano, and what can I say about this Apple ipod touch - apps at your fingertips, tunes, and videos and a great way to stay connected.
The range of activities this ipod enables is unbelievable to some one of my age. I can reply to emails dictating my replies. I can telephone my friends on skype. I can look up words in most common language and hear their pronunciation. I have a star guide, a bird guide with songs. The apps were either free or cost pence. It is a PDA, GPS and walkman as well. The only requirement is that one can access wi-fi. An Ipad that fits in ones pocket.

There's no need to review an Ipod Nano - it's staggering what is packed into such a small, light package. What was amazing was the service from Amazon. The first ipod that arrived had a battery fault. I filled the returns form and posted the ipod off. The very next morning the replacement arrived. When the return reached them a day later they quickly acknowledged the fault and refunded the full postage. That's good service.
Very disappointed with this Ipod, as it's european the volume is limited. Think they should inform that you are buying a capped Ipod.
As you would expect from apple - as it came out of the box it worked
I'd been thinking about buying myself an iPod for sometime, but just couldn't bring myself to commit. Having purchased and set one up for a friend recently, I was sufficiently impressed to take the plunge and get one for myself. I was initially going to buy the 8GB model whilst in town one day, but when I saw Amazon were selling the 16GB for a few pounds more than the high street retailers were selling the 8GB for, I thought "What the hell!" Item came quickly (3 days, if I remember rightly) and was well packaged. I had also ordered a 5G Crystal Clear Case Hard Cover from iDelta, also through Amazon, which arrived the day before. The setup process was fairly easy - download iTunes, connect iPod and then start transferring my CDs onto it. Having used an iPod before (although not actually having owned one until now) I found getting started reasonably straightforward. For a lot of people who may not be tech-savvy, or unfamiliar with the setup process, I can understand how using an iPod for the first time may seem a bit daunting, as the instructions provided are minimal to say the least. There is a wealth of information on the Apple website and on the internet generally, but for someone who has little or no computer experience, you may want to have someone guide you through the process to begin with. Since purchase, I've loaded just over 2,200 tracks onto my iPod and it looks and sounds great! Although you can play a variety of audio formats, I converted tracks from my CDs as .MP3 files, at 128kbps. I was a bit wary of converting files at what I thought would be a low bit rate, as I normally prefer to convert at 192kbps, but to be honest, the sound quality exceeded my expectations and as a result I should be able to fit just over 4,000 tracks onto the iPod when it's full. Navigating through the menus is a piece of cake. The click wheel is easy to use and it's a breeze to quickly find the track(s) that you're looking for. The screen is nice and clear and I've added artwork for all the songs (even one's it couldn't initially find, I added manually) so the coverflow feature works really well. The built in FM radio works very well, even though it's not something I'm likely to use all that often. I've added some of my favourite stations and the ability to 'pause' live radio is a nice feature. As I'll be using the iPod mostly for when I do my daily run, the built in pedometer is also a nice feature. The built in video camera takes decent quality video clips with sound. Considering the small size and portability of the iPod, the end results are better than expected, but if you are wanting decent quality video footage of a holiday / family occasion, etc. then something a bit more substantial would serve you better. There's a couple of games already built into the iPod, which are fun and should help keep you entertained for a few hours. They make good use of the accelerometer function which responds to the movement of the iPod. I've not watched any films or TV shows on the iPod, but when I initially saw it in the shop, the demo footage looked crisp and clear. Battery life seems to be pretty good. I tend to charge it up every couple of days regardless, but it certainly seems to have kept going after several hours of use without any issues. The earphones provided with the iPod are surprisingly comfortable and fit snugly into my ears. The sound is also surprisingly rich and deep. On occasions, I've sat in bed with a regular set of headphones connected and the sound is even more pleasing. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my iPod and would have no hesitation recommending it to others. It has given me an excuse to dig out a load of CDs, some of which I haven't listened to in years, and put them all into one place. I've rediscovered my love for music, which I thought I'd lost some time ago!
An excelent product and great sound. It is easy to use and gives lots of pleasure.

Absolutely brilliant. A1 device. Shame it was upgraded a week after I bought this version though! Nevertheless great price and a joy to use for music, photos, the web and those funny i-phone apps...
I have found the ipod very useful and practical with the one excetion, not being able to print direct from the e-mail. Also the standard apps do not include a word processing or spread sheet other wise is a great little device
Good item but apple are just too crafty in locking only their own software to sync up with this product. Its stylish but only limits certain apps to be downloaded. You cant listen to mp3 files or wmv files and so much flaffing around to do and download before you can so not as user friendly as I though it would be!
Thank you so much for the ipod touch it was the lowest price for this item. We received this item very fast.
I saved for a long time to get this iPod, I had originally wanted a touch a few years back but decided to go with the 120GB classic instead. Once that started to act up I thought I would treat myself to a 32GB iPod touch. This one was the cheapest on offer brand new and I couldn't have been happier when it arrived. I got an estimated delivery for a Thursday (which was a 6 days wait, 5 working days) however to my surprise it arrived on the Monday! I was delighted with the speedy delivery and appropriate packaging! I would recommend this product to anyone and everyone! Thanks again, I'm like a kid with a new toy now!
